Kentucky Derby Day

Have you picked your horse? AJ, GJ and I have picked our favorites. I won't tell what our choices were until after you pick yours! However, I will give you a hint -- I picked a longshot, and the guys picked picked favorites with much better odds than mine. Time will tell if we picked a winner!
The official drink of the Kentucky Derby is the Mint Julep made with Kentucky bourbon and served in the official souvenir glass. This year is the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby.

Go to for Bruce Richardson's recipe for Kentucky Julep Tea.

Kentucky newscasters and sports announcers begin early in the morning showing the entire day of racing, along with hats, clothing, the wild party people in the infield and folks holding bar-b-ques in backyards around Louisville. It is a full day of broadcasting here. For most of you, national TV coverage is usually limited to two hours focused on the horses with a bit of celebrity news. Here in Kentucky, we party all day!
