Dan'l Boone Inn, Boone, NC

The area of Kentucky where we live is Daniel Boone country. Fort Boonesborough is in on the Kentucky River in our county. I grew up on Boone Street. And, Berea College owns and operates a fine historic hotel named Boone Tavern Hotel in the center of our town. All these are named for the explorer and early Kentucky settler, Daniel Boone.

Several years ago, when I was tourism director for our town, I was called out of my office by a staff member needing my assistance with an unhappy tourist who insisted Boone Tavern Hotel building had been changed and relocated from the previous time he visited it! I won't go into the detailed conversation, but there was no way we could convince him otherwise! It wasn't until later that I realized he had the Dan'l Boone Inn Restaurant in Boone, NC and Boone Tavern Hotel in Berea, KY confused!

The Dan'l Boone Inn Restaurant serves home cooked family style meals where bowls of food are brought to your table. I was pleased to learn they serve breakfast in the summer. You just tell the server what you want to drink and they bring the set menu food items and will refill the bowls and platters as much as you want.

Our breakfast included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, country ham, biscuits, cream gravy, red-eye gravy, grits, stewed apples, cinnamon biscuits and black cherry preserves.

Yum, yum! This is the Appalachian-style country breakfast my boys love to eat! Notice our 10 year old AJ is having tea with his breakfast? Even though it was the generic bagged kind, we enjoyed it with these breakfast fixins!
