Monday Tea Time Memories — AJ's First Afternoon Tea

I have received many comments over the years about how good AJ's behavior is at afternoon tea.  He is currently approaching his 11th birthday.  These photos were taken at his very first afternoon tea experience in March 2000.  He was only 10 1/2 months old.  We were celebrating my birthday at the former Longaberger© Sentimental Rose Tea Garden in Ohio.

AJ drank only juice at this tea event, but as you can see, he learned how to sit through a lovely tea, was a very good boy, and thoroughly enjoyed himself!  Since this afternoon tea, he has participated in many more afternoon teas in the USA, Canada and Great Britain.

He likes most foods served with tea, but his favorites are cucumber and egg salad sandwiches and chocolate dipped strawberries with his choice of English Breakfast or Earl Grey Tea.   It really irratates me when tea servers automatically asume he will choose hot chocolate as his beverage choice just because he is a child.

He is a great tea buddy and always willing to enjoy a nice cuppa tea with me.

This is so sweet! And you are right about the servers making assumptions about young tea-goers. My oldest niece, at about 5 or 6, was furious when the server removed her teacup from the table because it was assumed she wouldn't want hot tea!

How lovely to have a special tea buddie. I always wanted to have tea at that tearoom, but I visited there before it opened and now it is closed.
