This is a photo of my grandmother, my dad's mother.
The photo was probably taken in 1941.
Notice her pretty hat, and her white gloves in her hand? I assume from the other photos I found with this one, it was taken on an Easter Sunday. My grandmother was a school teacher when she was a young lady, and raised her four children on a farm in rural Kentucky, while my grandfather worked for the railroad and was a farmer. When my dad was about 12 years old they moved to "town." Neither of my grandparents ever learned to drive a car. During my childhood years, they lived down the street from my family. I have many wonderful memories of visiting my grandparents, sitting on their front porch, and eating delicious meals around their kitchen table. I am blessed to have these memories.
Happy Mother's Day!

My grandmother had asimilar dress -probably from a pattern.
Your grandmother was a lovely lady....loved the hat.
Happy Mother's Day
Your grandmother is a fashionable lady.
I wonder if hats and gloves will ever make a comeback?
Happy Mother's Day.
I think my great-grandmother - who lived until I was 13! had the same dress, in a photo from 1942, just before my uncle went to fight in the Pacific. She had a similar hat, although hers was probably navy. She loved her afternoon tea.
My grandmother dressed just like that!
What a heartwarming story! And I hope you got to enjoy a lovely Mother's Day yourself!
You were very fortunate to have grandparents so close you could visit regularly. What a treasure.
