Kentucky Derby 2010 — Run for the Roses

Our newspapers have been full of Kentucky Derby news and related advertisements.
The famous Rose Garland is made by the Kroger floral design team in Louisville.  It is handcrafted on Friday night at the Middletown Kroger on Shelbyville Road between the hours of 4 pm and 11 pm and will be on display to the public until 4 am Saturday morning.

The Winner's Circle in the infield of Churchill Downs is used only one day a year, the first Saturday in May. This year is the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby.

NBC will have a national broadcast a couple of hours of the Derby hoopla and the race itself.  Kentucky NBC affiliates will be broadcasting all the races from early morning until the last race is run.  We will be able to see  horses, hats, Derby attire, backyard Derby parties around Kentucky, and much more all day long!

I had to laugh as Portland has a "Run for the Roses". But it is a people run during Rose Festival time, which is coming up later this month.

loved the rundown on the making of the rose garland. I had never given it much thought but it was fun to learn something about it.

I love reading about those roses each year, and I was fascinated to learn Kroger does it and not some exclusive Kentucky florist!
