Afternoon Tea at Ye Olde English Tea Room

I chose two very different afternoon tea experiences during our visit to the Orlando area.  This was our afternoon tea on Friday.

Months ago, I read an article in a British publication about the large numbers of British who have settled in central Florida.  Several of those have opened tea rooms, including Ye Olde British Tea Room in Lake Mary, just off I-4, north of Orlando.

This quaint tea room is set up in a very similar manner to tea rooms in small English villages we have visited on six diferent trips to England.  Their British-style menu is written on the chalk board.  In addition, we could choose from about 5 different teas.  Ye Old English Tea Room can seat 24 guests at pretty glass topped tables, plus 2 small children's tables.  They use an assortment of  china and teapots.  We ordered the Mini Full Afternoon Tea with a choice of one sandwich, veggies and dip, 2 scones (an orange scone and a raisin scone), and pastries.  My sandwich choice was Chicken Waldorf, GJ had the tuna mayonnaise with cucumbers added, and AJ had a PNBJ sandwich.  The guys enjoyed the quiet, atmosphere typical of an English tea room.

The tea room is located in a shopping center with a Home Goods and TJ Maxx next door.  Home Goods just happens to be one of my favorite American stores to purchase English-style tea pots and tea cups.  I made a (successful) quick dash in there while the guys waited in the car.

Note from Linda:
There is an article about Central Florida tea rooms in the July/August 2009 issue of Tea Time Magazine.   Ye Olde English Tea Room  is one of several tea roooms highlighted in the article.
