Afternoon Tea at the Peninsula Hotel in New York City

AJ and I accompanied GJ on a three day business trip to NYC last week. We arrived in a downpour of rain and flooding alerts in the northeastern states. I admit we traveled by taxi more and walked less than prevous trips to NYC, but we had a great time! As I have during our last two previous trips to NYC, I used Elizabeth Knight's book "Tea in the City New York" to choose this afternoon tea experience.
The Gotham Lounge at the Peninsula provided an atmosphere of old-world elegance for a delightful afternoon tea. The set tea menu included a selection of 9 loose leaf teas and 2 herbal infusions. I chose the Signature Peninsula Blend - Darjeeling. GJ chose an herbal infustion.
The food selection was served on a three-tier server and included a delicious assortment of savories, scones and sweets. The bottom tier included Maine Lobster with Lemon Aioli in a mini Broche Roll, Egg Salad with Cream Cheese and Cucumber on White Bread, Smoked Salmon with Caviar on Pumpernickel, Sliced Beef Sirloin with Brie, Horseradish and Baby Arugula on Seven Grain Bread, and Roasted Turkey with Cranberry in Pretzel Roll.
The top tier held Banana Walnut Bread, and Plain Scones served with mock Devonshire Cream and Orange Marmalade and Raspberry Preserves. The desserts on the middle tier were Strawberry Tarts, French Macarons, Chocolate and Pistachio Petit Fours and Mini New York Cheesecakes topped with Fresh Berries.
AJ ordered the Kids Tea which included Chicken Fingers and French Fries with Honey Mustard Sauce, a Peanut Butter and Jelly Finger Sandwich, a Cheese Sandwich Triangle, a Mini Cupcake, a Rice Crispy Treat, Fruit Parfait and Hot Chocolate. AJ chose the English Breakfast - Keemun instead of the hot chocolate and "sampled" bites of all our foods from our three-tier server.
Afternoon Tea at the Peninsula was a wonderful grand hotel tea experience our family thoroughly enjoyed!
