Sightseeing in LA

AJ loved the interactive music exhibits at the Grammy Museum
It is just around the corner from our hotel.

A mini-bus LA City Tour on Sunday took us to all the highlights
Marina Del Ray, above
Venice Beach, below
A stop at the Mexican Market and Union Station
On to Hollywood.
What a fun place!
Grauman's Chinese Theater

John Wayne's boot prints at Grauman's Chinese Theater
You never know who you might see in Hollywood (above)

The famous HOLLYWOOD sign

"Shopping" on Rodeo Drive

And, back to LA Live

I was just sorry Monday night was spent in the emergency room of a downtown LA hospital after my fall.
We had 2 more fun days in LA scheduled,
but, it was good to be able to come home and see my own orthopedic doctor for my broken shoulder.

LA was a fun place to visit.  We have many happy memories of our trip!!

Teacup Thursday — A Vintage Collingwoods Trio

I am showing this vintage Collingwoods English Bone China Teacup Trio.
I purchased this beautiful set several years ago at an antique shop in
Chipping Campden, one of our favorite Cotswold towns.

Shoulder Update

THANK YOU!

I appreciate all the kind blog comments, emails, cards, food and flowers brought by neighbors and friends!!!

The good news yesterday after x-rays is:
My fractured humerus appears to be in place to heal without surgery!

I will go back in 2 weeks for more x-rays.
In the meantime, I am trying to follow the doctor's instructions and remain immobile.
That means FIVE more weeks in the sling and sleeping in the recliner.
I know I can do this. This is just a little bump in the road (I keep telling myself).
The sling is much less cumbersome than the contraption I had to wear around my body after rotator cuff surgery on the same shoulder in November.

In the meantime, GJ, the hubby is making many pitchers of Harney and Sons Peach Iced tea for me.

I am sorry for not personally answering your emails and blog posts, or for writing thank you notes to local friends.
My computer time is very limited, and hand-writing is off-limits for now.
The right hand is "tied-up"  for the moment.

My Mishap in Los Angeles

This is the culprit in Los Angeles which caused my broken shoulder!

No, not the gorgeous yellow Ferrari.
It was the little curb behind it!

I took this photo with AJ and the Ferrari on Sunday morning.
Monday evening the Ferrari was gone, but the curb was still there....

I missed the step off it, turned my left ankle, fell forward, caught on my knees and hands
to prevent myself from smashing my face.
OUCH!!!
I knew immediately something was wrong with my right arm and shoulder!

Yes, I am right handed, and yes it is the same shoulder where I had rotator cuff surgery in November!
After several hours in a downtown LA hospital ER, I was diagnosed with a fractured humerus.
We caught the first flight home Tuesday and luckily saw my orthopedic surgeon Wednesday.
The good news is --  no surgery for now!
I will go back for x-rays  a couple of times to see if it will heal without surgery.
The moral of this story is:
Don't text and walk!
OK, I wasn't texting, but I was looking at my phone, and not where I was walking.
My two guys were on either side of me and it happened so quickly!!

Sadly, we had to cut our trip short by two days.

My blogging will be very sporadic during this six-week+ healing process.
I will post some of our photos of the trip when I can.
Unfortunately, no fancy afternoon teas are on my calendar for the near future.

Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

It Is an Iced Tea Summer

The temperatures at Hilton Head Island and here in Kentucky were in the 90's last week
with heat indices 105 - 114.  (meaning very high humidity with the temps)
It is definitely An Iced Tea Summer
better known as Ice Tea around this area of the country.

Even with the high temperatures and high humidity,
we enjoyed our annual week at the beach.
You just gotta love these Tee Shirts!

Captain's Seafood Bucket

My guys love the "Low Country Boil" seafood bucket.
A bucket can make a boy a little goofy!

But then he settled down to the business of eating....

I didn't have to work so hard to eat my dinner, below.

The Sea Trawler is one of our favorite Hilton Head restaurants.

The view, below, was from our window table.

Morning Beach Routine — Bicycle and Breakfast

We changed our morning routine on this trip to Hilton Head from years past.
There were only the three of us this time, so we rented bicycles and took a 5+ mile ride each morning.

And, we stopped at Skillets Cafe in Coligny Plaza for breakfast.
The breakfast skillet below is named "The Beach."

As you can see in the photo below, AJ approves of "The Beach."

After continuing our bicycle ride we went on the beach, to the pool and more!

Teacup Thursday — A Vintage Queen Anne Teacup

This pretty Queen Anne teacup marked "Anemone" is the first of two different teacups I purchased this week at a home furnishings consignment store in Hilton Head Island, SC.
GJ, the hubby, and AJ, the 12 year old were good sports to come off the beach early one afternoon
to go teacup shopping with me!

The Colonel's Lady Tea Room, Cafe and Gift Shop — Winchester, KY

The Colonel's Lady Tea Room, Cafe and Gift Shop is located on Main Street in Winchester, KY

GJ, the hubby, made reservations for us to have Afternoon Tea on Wednesday.
We each chose a pot of tea from the selection of nearly 30 teas and herbal infusions.
English Breakfast for AJ, decaf Earl Grey for GJ, and Bai Mudan White Tea for me.
The first course was a delicious warm Apricot Brandy Scone served with mock Devonshire Cream.
The guys asked for strawberry preserves to go with their scones.
They eat scones the English way with strawberry jam, and drink their tea with milk.

The next course was an Orange Cranberry Salad served with homemade Orange Marmalade Dressing

The salad was followed by a cup of creamy, yummy homemade tomato bisque soup topped with croutons and lightly shredded cheese.

The savories were served on a two tier server and included Sausage Phyllo Bites,
Mini Quiches, and Strawberry Cream Tea Sandwiches.

We chose our dessert from the featured desserts of the day.
GJ and I selected the Almond Joy Cheesecake.  AJ chose the Triple Chocolate Fantasy Cake.

Dawn Little, the owner of The Colonel's Lady,  is a delightful hostess and a talented  food artist.
Our family enjoyed our Afternoon Tea experience and we hope to return soon.
The Colonel's Lady includes a nice gift shop featuring items from jewelry and teapots to vintage teacups.

Afternoon tea is served with  24 hour reservations.
A nice lunch menu is served daily.
In addition, there are different items featured each day as noted on the board.

Winchester is conveniently located east of Lexington.
I will tell my friends about The Colonel's Lady Tea Room, Cafe and Gift Shop.

NOTE:  This tea room closed December 23, 2011
