Old Girlfriends Gathering in Cincinnati

The "old girlfriends" met in Cincinnati on Saturday for a fun day
of lunch, shopping, more shopping, and dinner.
We attended elementary and high school together,
something you can only do at a small school in a small town.
Since our 50th birthday year, nearly 11 years ago,
we have been getting together at least once a year.
We all have different personalities, different lifestyles, and different interests,
but will be friends forever.

Ansley Shamrock Teacup

This is the last teacup I purchased during this month of March.
It was on eBay and was calling my name. *wink*

I have fond memories of finding my first Ansley pieces in a tiny shop in a small village in England several years ago on a Sunday afternoon while GJ and AJ visited with a couple of local guys fishing in a pond on the village green.

I just couldn't resist this pretty and delicate shamrock teacup.

Happy 1st Day of Spring Ya'll

Spring has sprung a little early this year.
The daffodils have been bloomed for several weeks,
and bees are buzzing around the fruit tree blooms.

Below, our neighbor's weeping cherry tree.
These are just a few of the blooms we see right now.

St.Patrick's Day Tea Menu

These are photos from a St. Patrick's Day Tea I hosted a few years ago.
Bottom Tier  - Sandwiches and Savories:
Shamrock Chicken Salad Shell
Wearing-of-the-Green Savory (mini spinach quiche)
Emerald Isle Egg Salad Tea Sandwich
Leprechaun Pineapple Kiwi Tea Sandwich
Traditional Irish Cucumber Tea Sandwich

Middle Tier - Scones and Fruit Breads:
Blarney Scones
served with Clotted Cream and Lemon Curd
Queen's Fruit and Nut Cake

Top Tier - Sweets:
Pot o' Gold Pecan Tassie
End of the Rainbow White Chocolate Mousse Cup
Irish Clover Cookie
Luck of the Irish Tart

Each course was served with a different tea:
Assam (Irish Breakfast).  Darjeeling and White Teas were served
This was a fun afternoon tea to plan.
The theme, St.Patrick's Day, was "green" with several green food items.
Notice how I like to name the foods served for the occasion and tea party theme.

Recipe from my favorite Tea Recipe Book, A Year of Teas at the Elmwood Inn
 by Bruce and Shelley Richardson

1 8-ounce pkg. cream cheese, room temperature
1/4 cup pineapple preserves
1 Tbsp. mayonnaise
2 fresh kiwis, peeled and thinly sliced
16 slices whole wheat bread
Remove crusts from bread and cut into rounds.  In medium bowl,  mix together the cream cheese, preserves and mayonnaise.  Spread evenly on top of each slice of bread.  Top with a slice of kiwi.
Makes 32 open- faced sandwiches.

Crown Victorian Shamrock Teapot

This 6-cup teapot, marked Crown Victorian fine bone china, Staffordshire England,
is a birthday gift I purchased for myself.
It's another addition to my shamrock tea ware.
I will share more here during the next few posts.

The month of March is a fun time to celebrate a birthday,
and as I mentioned last week,  the celebration will continue all month!

Orleans Rose Teacups

While looking around a favorite consignment shop in Lexington last week,
I found this Royal Standard English Bone China teacup marked Orleans Rose.
It was marked 20% off the $7.50 price.
I purchased it knowing I had a matching Orleans Rose at home.

I was surprised when I arrived home to discover although the teacups are marked the same,
the shape and design are different.

My question for the teacup experts out there -- is the rounded, wider, cup on the left a teacup,
and the taller, narrow cup on the right considered to be a coffee cup?

I believe I read that someplace, but I can't remember where?
Or, is it the just the opposite?
If you have a resource explaining the different in the shapes of teacups/coffee cups,
I would appreciate knowing where it is.

Another Bone China Tea Strainer

I purchased this Lane End Pottery English Bone China tea stainer
in March 2011 as part of my collection of "shamrock tea things".

So, now thanks to Mary, I have two bone china tea strainers.

I've heard,  "it takes 3 of an item to be a collection".
I will definitely be looking for the third one!  (and more)
I just love collecting tea time china.

It's My Day!

Yep!  It's my birthday.
The guys in the family took me to Historic Boone Tavern Hotel
for brunch including a special dessert.
And, flowers from GJ and AJ.

My friend Mary and I concluded when you reach 60,
you should celebrate all during your birth month.
The celebration began with tea on the 7th and WILL continue. :-)

Thank you friends, for all the birthday cards!

Celebrating My Birthday at Greentree Tea Room

Mary, Delores and I went to Greentree Tea Room on Wednesday for the March Tea,
in celebration of my birthday this weekend.
Greentree changes their menu monthly.
Mary and I would love to go to Greentree every month of the year, but thus far, we haven't made it yet.
We are off to a good start this year having gone in February and March. (they are closed in January)
Greentree serves a luncheon tea at a great price, ($19.95 per person.)
The March menu included a delicious Potato Leek Soup

A perfect Irish Oatmeal Scone served with Blackberry Jam and Fayette Cream

One of my favorites at Greentree, the Hot Brownette,
a small version of the famous Kentucky Hot Brown.
The last two courses are served from the buffet and included
Salmon Mousse in phyllo shells
Benedictine Tea Sandwiches
Pesto Chicken Tea Sandwiches
Pistachio Cupcakes
Grasshopper Creams
Greentree French Filled Wafers
Winter Blend Tea

We met Judy and Maureen (with Mary in the photo below) who were seated at the table next to us.
When Judy did an online search for Greentree Tea Room, she discovered my blog.
What fun to meet a blog reader!

I look forward to an April visit.
