Rapid City - Day 1

What a fabulous trip!
We began our 10 day trip by flying from Cincinnati to Minneapolis to Rapid City, SD
We stayed four nights at the historic Hotel Alex Johnson in downtown Rapid City.
While we were there, we put over 700 miles of day trips on  our rental car.
Our first stop driving through the Black Hills of SD was Mt. Rushmore National Memorial.
~~
The guys took a hike into an area closer to the monument
as shown in the photos below — through the cave and up close.

The weather was beautiful, but very hot during our visit
with temperatures in the upper 90's
but, it was a change for us because of the low/no humidity.
Next, we drove to the Crazy Horse Memorial
and, to Custer State Park to view the bison and other wildlife.

We continued our drive south along US 385 through Hot Springs, SD
and into Nebraska where we stopped at a small cafe in Chadron, NE for lunch.
Obviously, I was growing tired after all this driving because I didn't get the camera out again until we returned to Rapid City for dinner at the very popular Firehouse Brewing Company Restaurant.
We did a little shopping then returned to the Hotel Alex Johnson.
Our bodies were still on Eastern time.  Early to bed and early to rise.
~~
Was there any TEA on this trip?
You bet there was!
*Iced Tea* at breakfast, lunch and dinner!

It sounds like quite a trip. So educational too for AJ. Iced tea is always a good thing on a hot summer day.

Such a beautiful place to visit! I'm sure the iced tea was extra special in this hot weather we've been having!

Yesterday I drove past bison in a pasture not far from here --- such a rarity to see and such interesting creatures!

Oh, give me a home, where the buffalo (or bison) roam ... look forward to hearing more of the adventure! (And because I read Marilyn's post already, I know where one of the best tea stops of the trip occurred! Lucky you!)
