Travels Out and About — Portland, OR

The Sand in the City, a fundraising festival
was held in Pioneer Courthouse Square
just up the street from where we stayed in downtown Portland.
450 tons of sand were brought in for the sculpture competition.
On Friday afternoon, after tea in Vancouver, WA,
we drove along the scenic Columbia River Gorge
to The Dalles, OR and then back to Portland.
We passed waterfalls, hiking trails, campgrounds and more!
There are 2 deer on the edge of the
Historic Columbia River Highway in the photo below.
I took these photos from the very scenic Rowena Crest.
On Saturday, we drove north west to Seaside on the coast
then traveled south along the scenic coast through Cannon Beach,
and Oswald State Park to Tillamook.
We toured and shopped at the Tillamook Cheese Factory
and sampled ice cream and cheese.

Haystack Rock, below, at Cannon Beach is one of the world's tallest monoliths.

The 40+ mile coastal drive was beautiful, with many pull-offs
for scenic views and picture-taking.
The temperatures in the 70's made for a refreshing
few days travel in beautiful Oregon.
Along the way to the coast, we passed U-Pick apricots,
cherries and blueberries.  What fun!
After a full day of sight-seeing,
we arrived in Tillamook for afternoon tea.... .
