Floral Bouquet Teacup Trios

Mary recently found six Staffordshire Bouquet English Bone China teacup trios
for a major bargain price at a thrift shop and called to see if I was interested in
purchasing them.
Y'all know I can't pass up bargain-priced teacup trios.
So I said "yes."
One of these days I need to count my teacup trio sets.

Sitting Among the Teapots and Teacups

Last week I posted about the Tea Brunch hosted in my dining room
with food contributed by friends, Patty, Mary and Lynn.
Several of you made comments about it being a good idea
to let friends contribute to the event by bringing food items.
I have hosted a Tea Brunch for my friends
three times before, the last one was in September.
I thought you might be interested to learn how last week's event came about...
Patty called and asked if I would host she, Mary, and Lynn again,
and she would bring muffins and fruit.  When I contacted Mary and Lynn,
they wanted to bring a brunch dish, too.
Patty has a beautiful home with a lovely dining room,
so why did she want to have it at my house?

Because, she said she "loves to sit among my teapots and teacups."
The teapot and teacup collector that I am took that as a compliment!
Wouldn't you?

Today, I am joining Rose Chintz Cottage for Tea Time Tuesday.

Tung Ting Formosa Oolong Tea

several years ago while visiting San Francisco.
It is a family-owned importer and tea shop
located in Chinatown.  I purchased some amazing teas
on that visit, and have ordered from them several times since.

The tea below is Tung Ting Formosa Oolong.
This was the 2nd tea we drank at my recent Tea Brunch
with friends, Mary, Lynn, and Patty.
This was one of four teas in the "Discovery Collection."

The Red Blossom Tea Company description says,
"Our Tung Ting was gathered at a little over 700 meters above sea level,
in an area outside Lugu, Nantou County.  We source exclusively winter harvested
leaves for their fragrance and mouth feel.  The tea is then lightly oxidized to
accentuate its fresh orchid and gardenia notes."

We gave this tea 4 stars.
(with 1 being the lowest and 5 the highest).
We all enjoyed the Tung Ting very much!
I would definitely  purchase this formosa oolong again.

A Few "Finds" From Travels

While traveling to Florida in December with Mary,
I found a few little treasures to bring home.
I flew home on a bargain flight,  and luggage weight was limited.
I love this little dish.  It is very similar in pattern to my Sandwich Pattern Glass pieces.
It sits on my desk to hold my rings.

The Sterling Silver sugar tongs came from Big Peach Antiques
located in Georgia just off I-75, south of Atlanta.
Thanks, Angela for that tip!
I couldn't resist these vintage napkin rings for $3
at a church thrift shop in Venice, FL.
The teapot and teacup ornaments were a must for my
tea-themed tree.  They came from a small Christmas shop in Venice.
Other items included the Royal Patrician mug I thoroughly
enjoyed using during the Christmas season, and
The Royal Patrician teacup and saucer,
both from the Camellia Rose Tea Room in
Plant City, FL.
I gave this to Patty (Patricia) for her December birthday gift.
I shared this creamer and sugar in a post during December.
I purchased them in an antique shop in DeLand, FL.
I enjoyed traveling on a relaxed schedule with Mary
where we could stop whenever we felt like it.
Can't wait until our next adventure!

January Tea Brunch with Friends

Mary, Lynn, Patty and I gathered around my dining room table
for Brunch Tea on Tuesday.
I took all sorts of photos of the food
and tea, but not a single photo of the guests!
Patty brought the mixed fresh fruit.
I provided the various teas including the first tea of the day,
Harney and Sons Queen Catherine, a blend of 3 Chinese black teas.

I used my Duchess June Bouquet English Bone China,
hand-carried from Stratford-Upon-Avon several years ago.

Patty also brought mini Bran Muffins,
served in one of a variety of clear Sandwich Pattern Glass dishes I
collected over the years from various antiques and thrift shops.

Lynn brought a delicious Quiche Lorraine, above.
Mary brought a Crudite Platter, including
Cherry Tomatoes with Mozzarella and Basil
and Celery stuffed with Olive Nut Cream Cheese Spread.
The centerpiece was a small clear glass teapot with
Jasmine Lily Blossoming Tea

Patty and Mary sampled the blossoming tea, but gave it a
poor rating compared to the five other teas I served.
(Yes, 5 different teas, black, white, oolong, and green).
Those teas will be reviewed in future posts.

The recipe for Olive Nut Cream Cheese Spread is one of my
top hits on the blog.  You can find the recipe posted here on my blog

Vintage Duchess Teacup

I love the pretty floral pattern on this
vintage Duchess teacup and saucer.
There is nothing like a "new" teacup
to help a tea lover get through the winter blahs!

Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea in January

Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea
is their most popular flavored tea.
It is a blend of black teas, three types of cinnamon,
orange peel, and sweet cloves.

I purchase the individually wrapped sachets for convenience,
to brew a 12-ounce cup/mug for friends when they visit,
or to take when we travel.
You can see the bits of orange peel in the sachet and
after the tea has been brewed, below.

By the way, I am continuing to celebrate
National Hot Tea Month throughout the month of January.

I purchase my Harney and Sons Tea online at

Berea Coffee and Tea

A few years ago, AJ discovered flavored coffee.
He is 13 years old and is required to drink decaf.
He wanted apple pie and ice cream with coffee this evening,
so we went to Berea Coffee and Tea, just a few blocks from our home.

 I ordered TEA.
The customer selects a tea bag from a variety of Harney and Sons tea bags.
The water was served very hot in a covered mug,
with a spoon and a small dish for the tea bag.
Here is my tea with AJ's caramel-something coffee
in the B C and T mug.
My tea remained very hot for a long time,
then very warm to the end.
I was surprised at the hot temperature of the water
when it was brought to the table.
And, I was pleased at the taste of the Harney Orange Pekoe
tea bag as it was perfectly brewed.

January Tea at Greentree Tea Room, Lexington

Mary and I met for lunch tea at Greentree Tea Room in Lexington today.
We were so busy chatting and visiting, I forgot to take a photo of the first course,
a delicious Corn Chowder.
The second course was an Orange Scone with
Orange Curd and Fayette Cream.
I took two photos to make up for the missed photo of the soup. :-)
The third course was Quiche Lorraine with a Salad.
Next, everyone is invited to the buffet table for sandwiches and sweets.
Olive Nut Spread in Celery Sticks,
Chicken Salad on Wheat Bread,
and Carrot Round Tea Sandwiches were the savories.
The sweets included Italian Cream Cupcakes,
Greentree French Filled Wafers
and Dark Hot Chocolate (again forgot to take a photo).
The tea served today was Winter Blend.
Greentree Tea Room serves Luncheon Tea
Wednesday - Saturday and 3:00 P.M. Saturday

Each year Mary and I set a goal to go to Greentree once
a month for the whole year.
Thus far, we haven't made that goal.
We will try again in 2013.
As of today, we have a good start!

A Family of Owls?

I received an interesting Japanese tea set from
Melissa for Christmas.
Why owls?
Our dear Aunt Ida collected owls.
When Melissa saw this set,
she just couldn't resist purchasing it for me.

The small teapot has an infuser basket inside.
Now I need to go shopping for some new green tea.
Don't you agree?
