A Family Afternoon at the Biltmore Estate

A must when you visit Asheville is to visit the Biltmore Estate,
"America's largest home", built by George Vanderbilt in the late 1800's.
(Click on the link above to see photos of the home.)
The home and gardens are located on 8,000 acres surrounded
by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The above photo was taken showing the view from a back veranda.
No photos are allowed in the house.
Below, we visited the some of the gardens.

Above: setting up for a wedding to take place that evening.

Yikes!  An alligator in the greenhouse!
What fun!

I'm glad you're off having all this fun with tours and travels and TEA!!

I strolled back through your lovely Tea for the Seniors just now, and I've been meaning to ask if you'd (or if you have and I missed it) give a little lesson on the rituals of the table. You have such a way of explaining things.

Some of your tables are set for six, some for more---I think I see an odd number or two in all the delightful arrangements.

Could you go over "tea manners" a little bit, as in I always think the scone course should be served first, warm from the oven, and it's not always that way---is it personal preference?

And the one I'd always wonder, were there several people at table and several tea-stands with matching dainties ranged down the table---how do you know WHICH is yours to choose from? In the set-for-six table, there are three-and-three, of course, but since it's harder to reach if you're at the far end along one side, how do you know which "corner to turn," so to speak?

I know everyone would like having you show the proper way to enjoy such a charming, splendid custom.

Always confident in your expertise,

Imagining the Biltmore Estate as a backdrop for a wedding... lovely! Looks like you had another fun get away!

Great question Rachel! Thanks for asking. I explained to the students how to decide who would eat from which server, and now thanks to your question, I will do a post on that subject.
