Our Visit at Bernideen's

On Saturday, July 20th, we drove from Denver to Colorado Springs to visit Bernideen's.
Many of my readers know Bernideen from Bernideen's Tea Time Blog.
It was so great to visit with Bernideen and her husband, and to take time for a little shopping.
Below are photos of just a few items in this lovely shop,
Bernideen has both new and vintage items,
including many teas, teacups, teapots and more!

Thanks Bernideen and Keith for a very nice visit!

Afternoon Tea at The Brown Palace Hotel, Denver

Afternoon Tea at The Brown Palace Hotel in Denver ranks among our favorites!
A traditional tea is served in the beautiful Atrium Lobby of this historic hotel.
The tea menu included a selection of 12 teas and 3 herbal infusions.
Austin selected the Organic Jasmine Fragrant Cloud Tea, Glenn had a
caffeine free English Breakfast.
I chose the Organic Brown Palace Crown Jewel,
described as: " A special blend of Assam ~ a nice tippy leaf with a malty bright flavor,
and Ceylon ~ a light, high grown leaf with a pungent, brisk flavor. This combination
creates a rich full bodied tea exclusive to The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa."
We each ordered the Brown Palace Signature Tea
which was brought to our table on a three-tier server.
The first course, warm scones, were on the bottom,
served with clotted cream and strawberry jam.

The sandwiches included Traditional English Cucumber,
Curried Egg Salad, and Turkey with Sun Dried Tomatoes.
The server asked if we wanted more sandwiches and brought
a second serving.
The Pastries were served on the top tier.
I was so excited to be served a delicious Gluten Free tea plate,
shown in the photo below!  It was delicious!

Glenn and Austin thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon tea service.
Afternoon tea is a long time tradition at the Brown Palace Hotel.

We also enjoyed an overnight at this beautiful hotel.
If we return to Denver, we hope to stay here again.

Later, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the award winning
Palace Arms where we shared Bananas Foster for dessert.

Kansas

Kansas was Austin's 49th state to visit!
Glenn and I have traveled to all 50 states, but
it has been his "project" to take Austin to all 50.
Hawaii will be his 50th state.
Yep!  We drove from Denver to Kansas to take a photo and have lunch.

The Grand America Hotel Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea at The Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City was very
enjoyable for our family.  We made the reservations before leaving home, and
planned this to be a time for relaxation after several days of driving
and before flying to our next destination.
We were seated at a "low" table in the Lobby Lounge, with several other
guests including a little girl's tea birthday party.
The girls were dressed up and used their best tea manners.
Piano music accompanied tea time.
Floor to ceiling windows look out on the pretty garden courtyard.
Our server greeted us and poured hot water over Flowering Tea n a glass.
Are you familiar with Flowering  or Blooming Teas?
They are tea leaves sewn around flowers.
When steeped in hot water, they slowly blossom.

The tea selection included White, Green, Oolong and Black Teas.
Caffeine free herbals and hot chocolate were available.
We each chose a different tea.
Austin selected Jasmine Downy Pearls.  My tea was the Organic High Mountain Oolong,
and Glenn chose the Decaf Acai Pomegranate Black.
The pretty Tunisia China was designed for the hotel.
Blair was our knowledgeable and friendly server.
He refilled our teapots with hot water several times.
The tea service began with Strawberries and Creme Chantilly.
The three tier server was brought to the table with a
five finger sandwiches and English scone served with Clotted Cream,
Strawberry Jam, and Lemon Cream for each guest.
The sandwiches were Chicken Salad, Cucumber,
Ham and Cheese Salad, Egg Salad, and a Salmon Wrap.

The desserts, an Assortment of Afternoon Tea Pastries
were brought on another three-tier server.
The top tier held delicious handmade jellies from the hotel's
La Bonne Vie pastry chef.

The guys said the pastries were delicious, and didn't care for the jellies.
I thought they were great!  They were gluten free. :-)
I was served a lovely plate of fresh fruit since I am gluten free.

Afternoon Tea at the Grand America Hotel  is served seven days a week,
1:00 - 3:30 with reservations.
I thought you might like to see a photo from our previous tea at
The Grand America Hotel in 2004.

Fun Travel to National Parks

We arrived home late yesterday from our last trip of the summer.
We flew from Cincinnati to Salt Lake City, and drove to to Idaho,
in the photo above, Austin's 48th state to visit.
We drove to West Yellowstone, MT where Glenn and I had
visited about 16 years ago with our younger daughter on a snowmobiling trip.
We had previously eaten at the Old Town Cafe, where we stopped for lunch on this trip.

We drove through Yellowstone National Park,
where we saw Geysers, including Old Faithful
 and wildlife along the road.
On to the Grand Teton National Park
with waterfalls and the rolling river,
and majestic mountains with a view of glaciers.
We continued on and stayed at The Lodge at Jackson Hole.
The adventurous guys ate bison, elk, and venison at
What a fun and interesting restaurant!

During the 10 days on the road, I debated the need to change
the name of this blog to Family Travels and Tea, or something similar!
~~
We have returned home, I am sorting though photos from 2 cameras and 3 phones.
For my tea-loving friends, tea posts are coming!
