Kentucky Derby Tea at Boone Tavern Hotel

The Kentucky Derby, known as
"The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports"
is held at Churchill Downs in Louisville on the first Saturday in May.
The Kentucky Derby Festival officially began on April 12th.

Boone Tavern Hotel and Restaurant at Berea College
held their third afternoon tea on April 19th.
The theme was "A Kentucky Derby Tea."
The event was sold out weeks in advance,
The Coyle Dining Room was set for tea.
The guests enjoyed the coziness of this room,
compared to previous teas held in the elegant main dining room.
Guests were encouraged to wear Derby attire, including hats.
The room was filled with ladies wearing colorful hats and spring attire.
I was happy to see our number of gentlemen guests increased.

The tea service began with a Cherry Rose Green Tea.
and  a "spoon" of
Boone Tavern's famous spoonbread.

Guests were also offered Elmwood Inn's Lavender Earl Grey Tea,
the Mayor's Cup Black Tea, and Strawberry Kiwi Herbal.
Savories
Served Plated
Tea Biscuits with Country Ham, Apricot Jam, and Arugula
Crab-topped Fancy Deviled Eggs
Mini Hot Brown Tarts
Liz's Spicy Pimento Cheese Sandwich
The three-tiered server was brought out with the next two courses.
Scones
The "Lily" Scone with cranberry and orange and a triple sec glaze
Plain Scone
Served with Berea College Farms Fruit Preserves and
Double Cream
Sweets
Chocolate Bourbon Tartlet
Mini Race Day Bite
Mini Cupcake with Mint Julep Frosting
White Chocolate Covered Strawberries and Raspberries
Blueberry Pinwheel Cookie

The horse looked like a real winner with her Derby Hat,
Blanket of Roses, and Austin, Peyton, and Kaitlyn.

Gluten Free Afternoon Tea for the three GF guests attending

A BIG thank you to Chefs Scott, Cliff, and Liz
for fabulous afternoon tea foods, and especially
for making special plates for four guests
with special dietary needs!

If you frequently read my blog, you may remember a
preview of this Kentucky Derby theme and menu
in March when "The Traveling Tea Friends" were here.
