Friday Cuppa - Tetley Gift

Today Tetley Earl Grey Vanilla Tea
is my tea of choice for enjoying
on the sun porch overlooking the pool and decks.
This tea was a gift from Judith at Lavender Cottage.
It is "a classic blend of Orange Pekoe teas with
the flavor of bergamot and vanilla."
There are 24 sachets in this English package.
I would like to say I was relaxing or resting or even stress-free
while drinking this tea on the sun porch, but in reality, I
was "fretting" over the need to clean the decks and deck furniture.
Oh well, a job for another day...
for now, I will just enjoy this vanilla Earl Grey.

Mary's Rosina Teacup

One of the items I purchased at Mary's auction
was this pretty Rosina English Bone China cup and saucer.
It is special to me because it was Mary's.
The auction is over, including the house, 20 acres, antiques, collectibles,
and more,  Mary and Donnie are ready for a "new" chapter
as she approaches her 65th birthday, and he has "semi-retired."

Memorial Day

A Time To Remember

Vintage Royal Albert Lavender Rose Trio

This pretty teacup trio is a Royal Albert Lavender Rose pattern.
The plate is the very typically English size of 6 1/4 inches.
When I serve afternoon tea, I prefer to use the 8 inch size.
But, I have hand-carried home from England, many of the
smaller plate trios.

Gluten Free and a Nice Cuppa!

The new Berea College Farm Store has a few
freshly baked gluten free items in their bakery each day.
I recently picked up Quinoa Brownies and Almond Thumbprint Cookies
filled with Berea College apple butter.
These go perfectly with a cu pof Elmwood Inn
Green Sencha Tea.

Taking Time For Friendship

Mary called on a recent Saturday, and sounded like she
needed a little break from a life-changing project.
She picked me up and we drove across the Kentucky beautiful countryside
to Bluebird Cafe in Stanford for lunch and much-needed chat time.
Dessert, above, included gluten free Creme Brulee and a nice cup of
Elmwood Inn Kentucky Blend tea.
After lunch we drove to her life changing project.
She and her husband are downsizing, selling their home
and farmland and moving into a condo.
It is difficult to part with 44 years of collections,
including some family heirlooms.  But, I highly recommend we all
downsize before someone else has to do it for us.
My husband did it for 2 mothers and 4 aunts.
It is never an easy task.
Best wishes Mary and Donnie!

A Very Special Gluten Free Afternoon Tea

Melissa enjoyed this beautiful gluten free afternoon tea at
The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead (Atlanta).
By the way - this blog post is a continuation of my post from last week.
The tables were set when the 550 guests entered the room.
The GF guest's "regular" plates were removed and replaced with gluten free plates.
The afternoon tea was served banquet-style
(see bottom photo)
Melissa's GF scone was brought on a separate plate,
while the other guest's scones were passed in baskets.
I have been to many hotel afternoon teas and this is
the first time I have seen individual jars of
"real" clotted cream and lemon curd served.
OK, Traveling Tea Friends,
GF Afternoon Tea at The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead is officially
on my Bucket List!

A BIG "thank you" to Melissa for taking the photos
on her iPhone and texting them with her narration of the event.
It was definitely the next best thing to being there!

Afternoon Tea Served Banquet-Style

Daughter #1, Melissa, recently attended a conference at
The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead (Atlanta) with 550 attendees.
Afternoon Tea was served banquet-style for lunch on Saturday.
Can you imagine serving 550 guests afternoon tea in an elegant setting?
I can not!
I get into a tizzy serving afternoon tea for six in my home!
Melissa took these photos on her cell phone and texted them to me,
with descriptions and the menu.
(Amazing modern technology!)
 Quoting from the hotel's website:
"Afternoon Tea is a gracious way to spend an afternoon with new friends,
old friends and best friends.  Tea is served in the English tradition, with loose tea
steeped in individual teapots, and poured through sterling silver strainers into bone china
teacups.  The selections include black, red, green and white teas as well
as herbal infusions."
The photo on their webpage shows a traditional service using a three-tiered server.
Obviously, a few adjustments have been made for the "banquet-style" service.
According to Melissa, "It was an amazing experience."

The Signature Strawberry Service is served on Saturdays and Sundays,
Grand Mariner marinated strawberries served with a selection
of sugars and whipped cream.
The teas served at this event were
Green Tea, Earl Grey and Chamomile.
Gluten Free photos in my next post.

Tea Trivet Gift

A friend called yesterday on her way home from work,
and said she had something to bring me.
She is an antique lover and "rescued" this pretty green
Depression Glass tea trivet from the trash pile of an estate.
She "knew" I would appreciate it.
Thanks Cindy!  I love it!

DAR Commemorative Mother's Day Tea

On Sunday afternoon, May 4, I attended a DAR Tea
hosted by the Rockcastle County Chapter, NSDAR,
in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Mother's Day
at a church in Mt.Vernon, KY.
Twenty-two tables were set for six guests each.
Seating began at 1:00 p.m.
The program began at 1:30 p.m.
When we arrived the three tiered servers were on the tables.
Sandwiches and savories, veggies and dip, mini desserts, and fresh fruit were served.

Our table was reserved for Chapter Regents from the area.

The program included music by local entertainers, a history of Mother's Day,
recognition of the oldest DAR member mother the oldest mother in Rockcastle County,
an outstanding Rockcastle County mother, and a memorial candlelight ceremony
in memory of deceased mothers and in honor of living mothers of the guests attending.
A pie and cake live auction and a silent auction of donated items was held.
It was a beautiful day to drive south to Mt.Vernon.
I visited with several Rockcastle County friends attending.
A variety of iced teas were served.
The food was prepared and served by a caterer and DAR members.
