Happy Thanksgiving!

It is time to share tea and turkey with friends and family!
 
This year we will celebrate at our home.
I will cook turkey, cornbread dressing, and all the traditional
southern side dishes (gluten free) for our family of nine.
Our kids will be out of school after today for the
long weekend. It will be extra busy at our house for several days.

Vintage Snack Sets

 
I am "trying" to control my habit of collecting treasures,
or junk to some folks.  I've been focusing my "collecting" on
more specific items.
But the memories of my mother and aunts using snack sets
similar to this vintage Indiana Tiara Glassware when serving  punch and cookies
or coffee and cake lady friends,
"made" me purchase several (I haven't counted) of these sets recently.

 
The plate has an indention for the cup on the right below. 
Attending a recent event where ladies were sitting here and there,
 juggling teacups and saucers and snack plates
convinced me not to pass up this bargain vintage find. 
 
My mother, Aunt Ida, and Aunt Mary would have thought
the purchase was justified, too.
I just "know" it.

caring for, talking to, and loving this plant for me.
I love tea, but I'm not a gardener.

Tea For Fifty

On Monday, I made tea transported it, to a friend's home
in Berea, and served in silver teapots to 50 guests
at a buffet-style afternoon tea. 
The food for the event was catered
by Boone Tavern Hotel and Berea Coffee and Tea. 
Two housekeepers served the food and cleaned up. 
The guests enjoyed the event and were very
complimentary of the 
of black Chinese teas.  
I have served this black tea many times to large 
groups with great success. 

Whew!  I was too busy to think about taking photos!

Family Weekend

 Family and Friends gathered over the weekend 
for the Berea College Homecoming
and SIL Tim's 20th class reunion. 
The weekend of fun closed with the Alumni Brunch
on Sunday at Boone Tavern Hotel.

"Tea At Downton" Book

 
"Tea at Downton - Afternoon Tea Recipes From The
Unofficial Guide to Downton Abbey"
by Elizabeth Fellow
is a 64 page newly published book
of traditional, new and "borrowed" recipes.
Names and references of the Downton Abbey characters are used
in the names of recipes and throughout the book.
In addition, there are tips on how to brew tea,
planning a tea party Downton style and more!
Descriptive quote from the back of the book:
"From the bottom tier sandwiches to the elegant cakes
of the top tier, we cover it all.  Not forgetting of course the
perfect scone recipe and its accompanying jams."
 
If you are planning a Downton Abbey themed tea,
this little book would be a good resource.

Thyme on Broadway in Irvine, Kentucky

 Mary, Lynn, and I drove to the small town of  Irvine, KY
population approximately 3000,
where Lynn was born and raised. 
We took a driving tour of the town while she pointed out the
schools she attended and
the houses where she and her family lived.
The purpose of the trip was to meet her dear cousin for lunch
at the Thyme on Broadway Café.   
I fell in love with this quaint café at first sight!
 The menu includes a large variety of soups, salads,
sandwiches, starters, daily specials, and flavored coffees
and teas.
 This delightful vintage advertisement for Coca-Cola
was uncovered on an interior brick wall
during the remodeling of the building which
had served as several businesses over the years.
What a fun day with friends!
I look forward to returning to Thyme on Broadway
at 131 Broadway Street
in Irvine, Kentucky
to have lunch again soon. 
The homemade chicken salad was delicious!

My friend Belle and I have an ongoing search
for the best chicken salad ever. 
I called her when I returned home and told
her she has to go with me to try this one!

By the way, the fun thing about the search for the
best chicken salad ever, is the search is never ending.

Fall Tea at Boone Tavern Hotel

Historic Boone Tavern Hotel at Berea College
served their first Fall Tea Saturday, November 1st.

Afternoon Tea began with a serving of 
Boone Tavern's famous Spoonbread.  
Savories: 
Pork Tenderloin Crostini with Sweet and Sour Cabbage 
Local Wild Mushroom Tartlet
Goat Cheese Spinach and Pine Nut Spiral
Turkey Quiche with Cranberry Relish
Crab, Butter Lettuce, and Roasted Butternut Squash Tea Sandwich
Sweet Potato Scone with Candied Walnuts
served with Mock Clotted Cream
 Lavender Panna Cotta
Dipped Strawberries
 Chocolate Expresso Cordial 
Bourbon Pound Cake with Bourbon Glaze
Mini Pumpkin Cheesecake
My gluten free version of the delicious savories
 My gluten free sweet potato scone and sweets. 

The teas served were from Elmwood Inn Fine Teas:
Apple Spice Black Tea
French Breakfast Tea - St. Coombs Estate
English Breakfast Decaffeinated, Organic 
Temple Garden Ayurvedic Herbs and Green Tea

This event was done completely without my help or advice.
I feel a bit like my baby bird has flown out of the nest. ;-)

Tea News from The Plaza

and Iron Chef is overseeing the reopening of 
The Palm Court at the Plaza, 
in NYC.
According to the article, teas to be served are from Palais des The's.
I can't wait to return to The Plaza for afternoon tea!
