DAR Event

The Berea-Laurel Ridges Chapter, NSDAR is celebrating
our 85th anniversary in 2015.
Chapter members traveled to Paris, Kentucky to Duncan Tavern Shrine,
the state headquarters for the KSDAR,
for a special dedication ceremony and lunch.
In 1976, a very dedicated member of our chapter made
seven Early American Flags to be used by our chapter
and other chapters around Kentucky, as a Bicentennial project
and for years after.  They were used for many years and
are still in great condition.
Our chapter gave them to the Kentucky Society's Duncan Tavern
on May 21, 2015 in a special memorial service.
Lunch was set in the dining room for 21.
Everyone enjoyed the meal, the tour, the gift shop and the ceremony.

Added after Rachel's comment:
Deliciously brewed iced tea was served to everyone.
In addition, coffee, regular or decaf was served,
and in the beautiful mint julep cups, was iced water with
Kentucky Colonel Mint sprigs from the herb garden.

What an absolutely impressive, well-arranged event! I have a special place in my heart for the DAR, for they awarded me the DAR Citizenship Medal my senior year, with a check (and Sis says that in her meanderings for provenance of our CAR credentials, she found two ancestors who would establish our DAR merit, as well).

And what attention to detail---is that a little iced-tea spoon rest at every setting? What a neat idea, with all those snowy linens. And JULEPS! If you tell me you had Juleps, Miss Lady, I'll just swoon away, though I do not like them, but the IDEA and the ritual and the meaning is so wonderfully a part of Kentucky's long rich history of hospitality.

And the flags---I cannot speak to the significance of the flags, in their historical AND their creation in 1976, by those talented, caring hands. They're heirlooms and bits of history all in one.

What a day, and I'm so glad YOU got to participate.

I have no idea what I was thinking in that acronym back there: DOC was the correct word.

I need more coffee. Or less, maybe. Or some kitchen counters and plumbing.

What a lovely luncheon and how generous of your chapter to share the flags with others.
