Kentucky Derby Afternoon Tea at Boone Tavern Hotel

 We are just one week from the Kentucky Derby.  
The Derby Festival officially began a few days ago. 
Folks in Louisville and the state of Kentucky are celebrating. 
Boone Tavern Hotel held their 2nd Annual Derby Afternoon Tea yesterday.
Our family and neighbors, Joyce and Mary K. enjoyed a lovely afternoon.

The tea service began with a choice of 
Boone Tavern Blend 
English Breakfast Decaf 
Earl Gray 
Strawberry Kiwi

A "spoon" of Boone Tavern's specialty, Southern Spoonbread
was served to begin the afternoon tea.
 The first course was served plated and Chef Liz described the foods. 
Derby Bourbon Shrimp
Roasted Chicken Salad Tart
Toast Pints with Kentucky Beer Cheese
garnished with Carrot and Celery Ribbons
Kentucky Hot Brown Bite
Horsey Deviled Egg

The Scone and Desserts were served on the three-tier server
Again, Chef Liz described the menu items.

Country Ham, Cheddar, and Chive Scone
served with Savory Boone Tavern Cream
Mini Race Day Pie (aka Derby Pie)
Bourbon Ball
White and Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberry
Woodford Berries and Cream
Mint Julep Mousse Cup

Chef Liz received applause after describing the beautiful desserts.
Below, my gluten free version of the same foods everyone else ate.
Everything on my plates were made with gluten free products.

The Kentucky Derby festivities will continue all
week with various events.
The race, known as "The Run for the Roses"
is always held the first Saturday in May.
