Breakfast at Skillets with Charleston Tea Plantation Tea

Drinking Charleston Tea Plantation tea in South Carolina is always
a treat for us on our annual visits to Hilton Head Island.
Melissa and I drank the Charleston Breakfast® Tea each morning
at Skillets Cafe, our favorite breakfast place on the island.
Below: Austin discovered the Skillet's Benedict with Grits, delicious and gluten free,
made on loaded potato skins instead of an English muffin.
Gluten free meals are served on green plates.

Christmas Vacation

We traveled to Hilton Head Island, SC for Christmas vacation.
The weather was great, and the family had a great time on the beach,
 in the pool,
enjoying the view from our balcony,
and lots of great seafood (this is gluten free!).

and Christmas.

Christmas Afternoon Tea at Historic Boone Tavern Hotel

I am very pleased I was able to assist with the fourth annual Christmas Afternoon Tea
at Historic Boone Tavern Hotel on Saturday, December 10, 2016.
The event was sold out with 76 advance reservations
Starting with Kaitlyn, Austin, Peyton, Melissa, me, Mrs. Henderson (our
91 year-old neighbor), Glenn and Tim.
Our family has celebrated with a Christmas Afternoon Tea since before Austin was born.
The dining room was beautifully decorated for the season.
A spoon of Boone Tavern's famous spoonbread was served first. Sorry, no photo.
Then the sandwiches and savories were served plated.
The "spoon" was edible.  I was told it tasted like a cracker.
Below:  The gluten free version of the savories.
The scones and desserts were served on the three-tier server.
Below is the delicious gluten free version.
I was seated on the opposite side of the table from the gluten-full
version and forgot to take a photo. Their cookies were different and
they had mini cheese cakes.  The pastry chef kindly gave Melissa, Austin and I
doubles on all the gluten free sweets.
It was a very special event for our family.
I missed this photo op because I was in the Dining Room
helping with preparations.

Holly Dunoon Mug

While traveling in Maine this summer, I purchased this pretty
Dunoon English Fine Bone China mug as a "souvenir" from
the Bar Harbor Tea Company located among quaint shops along Main Street.
I saved it to use for the first time today, December 1st.
It's time to begin celebrating with Christmas teas!
Won't you join me?

Great Smoky Mountains Memories

Glenn, Peyton and Austin are pictured here in a Smoky Mountain cabin
during Thanksgiving break 2008.
I have blogged many times about our family travels to
Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains.
The cabins in the area were/are beautiful and luxurious and a
favorite place for many families in our area to travel to for
weekend getaways, vacations, camping and hiking.
I first visited Gatlinburg with my parents before I was two years old,
and continued to visit multiple times yearly since.
Our family, friends and neighbors are so sad about the massive devastation
this week due to the tragic wildfires.
Some of our neighbors own property that was destroyed, but that is minor
compared to those who lost their homes and lives.
Sending love and encouragement to all affected, and prayers for healing.

Family Thanksgiving Celebration

Isn't it amazing how the "selfie" has changed photography?!?
Above: our family selfie just before sitting down to eat
this delicious traditional southern Thanksgiving meal.

We went to Melissa, Tim, and Peyton's on Wednesday
for family fun and good eats!
Our Traditional family Thanksgiving Menu
Turkey
Honey Baked Ham
Southern Cornbread Dressing
Corn Pudding
Sweet Potato Casserole
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
Green Beans
Devilled Eggs
Cranberry Sauce
Rolls
Pecan Pie
Apple Pie

I prepared everything gluten free except for the "store bought" rolls and pecan pie.
We are planning for more guests next year in Berea.
I will add Cheese Grits, a favorite of daughter #2.
Any suggestions for your family favorite Thanksgiving dishes we could add?
