First Saturday in May

The first Saturday in May is known in the state of Kentucky as
Derby Day
the 143rd "Run for the Roses" at Churchill Downs in Louisville
also known as "The Greatest 2 Minutes in Sports."
Post time is 6:34 p.m. ET and
NBC is broadcasting live coverage.
Our local NBC affiliates (Lexington and Louisville)
will be broadcasting all day long.
There are Derby parties being held all over the state.
Many are backyard BBQ's and others are elegant affairs.
The Kentucky Derby Festival is the largest annual festival in the state
with events taking place in multiple locations around Louisville.
The festival began in April and includes music concerts, fireworks,
balloon race, Pegasus Parade, a marathon, bicycle race, many celebrities,
and much more!

Horses and Hats!
The tradition of wearing a hat to the Derby and the Oaks (Friday)
began in the 1960's and continues today. Some Derby hats are beautiful,
and in my opinion, some are not!  But it's always fun to see them.
Most people in Kentucky have not attended a Derby.
Glenn and I have been fortunate to have been invited
and attended on four different occasions.
And yes, I wore a hat to each of them.
