Happy New Year!

Our family celebrated with a non-traditional Christmas in 2018.
We traveled to Honolulu where we stayed three nights then took
the Norwegian Cruise on the Pride of America, Dec. 22 - 30.
The above photo was during the day at Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii on Christmas Day.
 We are on a beautiful new black sand beach created when the lava flowed
into the ocean during the 2018 volcano. 

The palm trees were planted shortly after the lava flow by early hikers
 to mark the trail after the lava cooled enough to hike into the area.
We passed several locations where steam was rising from the lava.
Daughter, Melissa, arranged a private tour for our family through Big Island Tours (see below)
Gil was our driver/guide.  This was my favorite day.  More to come.

Behind the Scenes at the Boone Tavern Hotel Christmas Afternoon Tea

It takes a team to make the tea and foods for sixty guests. 
There is not enough space in the kitchen for the set-up, therefore
the Skylight Room, a small private dining room adjacent to the main dining room
is used for tea brewing and preparation for serving.
The photos above and below show the savory (first) course as it is plated.

The scones and desserts are served on three tier servers.

Historic Boone Tavern Hotel Christmas Afternoon Tea

The annual Boone Tavern Hotel Christmas tea was Saturday, December 8.
Austin had a fraternity event so our special friend Brittney joined us.
 Assistant dining room manager, Andrew decorated the tables
with red roses, evergreens and holly.
The event is held in the main dining room of the hotel.
The menu planned by Executive Chef Jason.

 Everyone was served a portion of the famous Boone Tavern Spoonbread,
followed by the first course of savories, served plated.

As the Boone Tavern tea consultant, I was very busy,
but I did take the time to enjoy tea with my family.
The gluten free desserts below were also served plated.
And the delicious scones and desserts on the three tiered server for everyone else.
 White chocolate dipped gingerbread cookies, Eggnog custard tarts,
Peppermint Fudge Squares, Dried Fruit Rugelach, Golden Rum Cake,
 and Scones on the bottom tier served with Devonshire Cream and strawberry jam.
Several tables of friends attended.

Enjoying Christmas Tea together is a long-time Jennings family tradition.

Thanksgiving With the Family

Melissa and I cooked our delicious Thanksgiving meal and we ate at
her house with the family.
Turkey, Ham, and all the southern fixin's.
Tim's brother, Larry, brought a beautiful lemon curd gluten free cake from
a bakery in Asheville.
