Doo Lough in County Mayo

On Saturday morning, June 16, we departed Westport and drove to
Louisburgh with views of Clew Bay with 365 islands and Ireland's holy mountain,
Croagh Patrick, where St. Patrick is believed to have fasted for 40 days and nights, twice.
As you can see, the fog and drizzle prevented us from seeing the
amazing views.
We continued though the haunted valley of Doo Lough with a stop at the
memorial marker for the Great Irish Famine Walk in 1849 where hundreds of
destitute and starving men, women and children perished along the way in
extreme cold, hail and snowy conditions.
The Great Famine was 1845 - 1849.
A memorial walk is held in this location each year.
